An expansion of the NCMBC’s Federal IT Symposia in 2010 and 2011, the Federal Advanced Technologies Symposium will focus on the future advanced technology needs of DoD and other federal agencies within the state.  The objective is to establish a dialogue between industry, academia and government and form partnerships to address the future needs of the federal government to meet the challenges ahead.

Forum Descriptions

Advanced Materials and Manufacturing - Chair: Dr. Michael Steer, North Carolina State University, Lampe Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Panelists from 11 different organizations will present exciting breakthrough technology advances in such areas as manufacturing nanotechnology, optical imaging and measurement, composites, protective coatings, advanced semiconductors and EMI shielding.

Bio-Medical Technologies - Chair: Dr. Steve Soper, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Biomedical Engineering

Advancements in the biomedical field are strongly led by NC organizations and this panel features the newest technology from 13 presenters.  Exciting advancements in diagnosis, treatment, devices, traumatic injury response management as well as cost-effective automation solutions for complex bioassay workflows and medical countermeasures to the toxic effects of nerve agents will be discussed.

Fuels & Power Technologies - Chair: Dr. Johan Enslin, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Director of the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) at UNC Charlotte and Distinguished Chair in Power Engineering Systems

The advances in this area are nothing short of amazing.  With an emphasis on small-scale solutions, this must attend panel of 8 will present the next wave of capabilities with break through evolution to current approaches to a new generation of power sources.

Behavioral Sciences Technologies - Chair: Dr. David Schanzer, Duke University, Associate Professor of the Practice for Public Policy and Co-Director, Institute for Homeland Security Solutions

The 7 panel members will address advances in our understanding of the how and why of human behavior.  A range of topics will be discussed, from new techniques in early identification of abnormal behavior to advanced techniques and technologies in communication and understanding.

Information Technology Modeling and Simulation Technologies - Chair: Dr. Michael Young, North Carolina State University, Professor of Computer Science

IT is everywhere in our world and these 12 organizations will cover new developments in software tools, biomedical IT, custom communications devices, training technologies, logistics, RFID calibration, authentication coding and simulation environments.

Automotive and Robotics Technologies - Chair:  MG Julian “JB” Burns (Ret), Vice President of Defense Affairs, BAE Systems (USA)

Long a leader in automotive technologies, North Carolina is represented by 8 outstanding organizations featuring R&D advances, electric vehicles, advanced testing techniques, advanced suspension systems, new piston engine techniques and new hitch and rescue products for the market.

Please note:  Online payment will not be available June 27 - July 2 in order to comply with Fayetteville Technical Community College's fiscal year-end closing.  Online payments will be available prior to June 27th and from July 2nd to the event date. Registration will remain open; however, online payment will not be available.  On July 2nd, NCMBC will email those who register during June 27 - July 2 time period to inform you that online payment is now available. Your registration is not complete until payment is received.  If possible, please register prior to June 27th.   

PAYMENT.  After completion of your registration, online payment is available through the use of a Visa or MasterCard.  Online payment is preferred.  However, checks will be accepted.  Checks must be made out to "Fayetteville Technical Community College" and mailed to PO Box 1748, Fayetteville, NC 28302-1748.

Additional Participants.  If your organization would like to send individuals outside of the two (2) provided in the exhibitor registration, they must register and pay as an attendee ($110). 

Exhibit Space.  Exhibitor space includes a table-top booth display (6-foot table, chairs, table skirting, and electricity if requested).  If your organization plans to utilize the electricity, please provide your own extension cords. 

Set-Up.  Information on set-up times/dates will be available shortly. 

Exhibitor Special Requirements.  If your organization has special requirements or needs to ship materials to the Friday Center, please email smedickc@ncmbc.us, as soon as possible. 

EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY.  If the need to cancel occurs, please notify NCMBC in writing to smedickc@ncmbc.us prior to June 18, 2012 for a full refund.  Refunds will not be provided to those who cancel after close of businesses on June 18, 2012.  Refunds will not be provided for "No Shows" the day of the event.
