Catawba Valley Community College Opens NC Military Business Center Office to Provide Business Development Services to North Carolina Companies
May 14, 2020 – The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Mills as Business Development Manager and Business Development Professional, and the opening of a new service location at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) in Hickory, North Carolina. Serving businesses statewide, Mr. Mills will also provide one-on-one assistance to help businesses in the region compete for, win and grow jobs through federal contracts. The opening of the NCMBC office at CVCC results from expanded funding for the NCMBC provided by the General Assembly and State leadership to grow the defense economy in North Carolina.
“The business development team is the heart of the NCMBC,” said Scott Dorney, NCMBC Executive Director. “Mark’s extensive leadership experience as Program Director for the North Carolina Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) will ensure his success in managing the NCMBCs statewide business development team. His federal contracting expertise will prove invaluable to businesses in the CVCC service area and surrounding counties in competing for, winning and successfully executing federal contracts – and growing jobs in our state.”
As manager of the business development team, Mr. Mills will focus the NCMBC’s twelve business development offices on industries and federal agencies that award the most lucrative federal contracts, suitable to business capacity in North Carolina. As a business development professional, Mr. Mills will identify current and future prime and subcontracting opportunities (with a focus on DoD’s Clothing and Textiles supply chain), notify companies statewide of these opportunities, and provide one-on-one assistance to help companies in his service area to bid on and win federal contracts. Mr. Mills will work one-on-one with North Carolina businesses in Catawba, Alexander, Ashe, Alleghany, Burke, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
Prior to joining the NCMBC, Mr. Mills served as the Program Director for the PTAC, where he directed a team of ten procurement counselors at eight different universities within the UNC system. Mr. Mills served as the PTAC counselor at Appalachian State University for 8 years prior to becoming the Program Director, and has over 19 years of experience providing procurement assistance to North Carolina businesses seeking contracting opportunities with local, state and federal governments. A military veteran, Mr. Mills has 27 years of military management and leadership experience, including 13 years of uniformed service with the United States Air Force and the Army National Guard, and subsequent service with the PTAC and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
