*This is a part-time, advisory position (up to 24 hours per week).  The employment relationship is negotiable, i.e., the selected candidate may either become an employee of the NCMBC’s staffing firm, or be the owner/employee of a company contracted to provide staff to the NCMBC. 
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
A combination of education or experience equivalent to four years in textile technologies, government procurement, research and business is required.  Must have a working knowledge of and passionate interest in textile technologies, research, and government/military requirements for clothing, equipment and soldier systems.  A Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM and/or equivalent work experience in textile technology and/or military requirements-generation for uniforms, equipment and soldier systems is required.  A working knowledge of government acquisition and/or military requirements-generation processes is strongly preferred.  Excellent organizational, writing, communications, and social skills, and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database and internet research techniques are required. 

 
Position Duties:
 
The Strategic Industry Professional, Textiles and Soldier Systems (SIP, TSS) is a member of the NCMBC Strategic Industry Professional team and provides strategic advice and direction to the NCMBC Business Development, Headquarters and Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH) teams regarding the federal/military infrastructure and marketplace for clothing, equipment and soldier systems.  Qualified candidates will demonstrate evidence of a career that includes: being a self-starter; the ability to work with broad guidance, to take initiative and to look for and make the right things happen; flexibility, open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives; and a willingness to take risks and accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.   

Specifically, the SIP, Textiles and Soldier Systems will:

  • assist the NCBMC textile team in developing and maintaining an NCMBC strategic work plan for the federal/military clothing and textile-based equipment and soldier systems marketplace
  • establish effective liaison for the NCMBC with federal/military agencies and commands that acquire clothing and textile-based equipment and soldier systems
  • establish effective liaison for the NCMBC with federal/military textile prime contractors
  • establish effective liaison with, and advise BDPs on textile-related supply chain and research and development capacity in North Carolina
  • work with the NCMBC Business Development Professionals (BDPs) for the textile industry to identify future federal/military requirements for clothing and textile-based equipment and soldier systems
  • advise BDPs on the viability of future and current federal/military textile-related contract opportunities, and assist with distribution of viable opportunities to qualified businesses
  • assist the Headquarters and BDPs to organize, communicate and execute federal/military textile industry events hosted by the NCMBC
  • perform other duties as assigned by the NCMBC Executive Director
