The Brunswick Community College, Small Business Center, in conjunction with the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, and Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation sponsored a seminar entitled How to Identify, Bid, and Win Government Contracts.  This seminar was held at Brunswick Community College on Tuesday, March 24th in the new Event Center at the Odell Williamson Fine Arts Center.  A light continental breakfast provided by Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation.

This seminar was designed for companies that wanted to learn how to expand their business into government contracts regardless of their size.  Current government contracts in Brunswick County include motel accommodations, electronics, forensics, construction, construction materials, golf equipment, literary research, and book supply.

Lynne Crawley, Procurement Technical Assistance Center in Fayetteville, gave an overview of government contracting at the local, state, federal and military levels.  Carolyn Bunting, North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) discussed MatchForce which provides a convenient way to find out about North Carolina military and federal government contracts via e-mail notices.  Lastly, Don Spry of the Small Business Administration offered an overview of SBA loan guarantees available to a business that needs additional capitalization for a contract.

In a continuing effort to help newly-interested businesses in federal contracting, Carolyn Bunting, NCMBC, returned a week later to Brunswick Community College to present a hands-on MatchForce class.  Topics included the registration process, identifying the appropriated NAICS codes and using MatchForce to search for federal opportunities, business partners and potential employees.
