The Forest Service is a federal agency within the US Department of Agriculture that manages public lands in national forests and grasslands.  The Forest Service is also the largest forestry research organization in the world, and it provides technical and financial assistance to state and private forestry agencies.  One of the Forest Service’s buying offices is located right in Asheville, NC. (To find out more about the Forest Service, click on:  http://www.fs.fed.us.)

Note that the Forest Service has a number of projects planned in NC that are funded with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  To view their list of ARRA projects go to: http://www.fs.fed.us/arra/arra-releasedfsprojects-2009-6-3pm.pdf and scroll down to “North Carolina”.

The USDA Forest Service, Southern Region, has scheduled a FREE conference to be held in Charlotte, NC, on July 7, 2009, for interested construction firms.  The Forest Service is especially interested in firms providing services covered by the following NAICS Codes: 236210, 236220, 237110, 237310, 237990, 238160, 238210, and 238220.

  • How to do business with the Forest Service
  • What the Agency is buying this year, and
  • Gaining a competitive edge through certifications

This event is FREE and open to the public.  The conference will be held on July 7th at the Holiday Inn, 321 W. Woodlawn, Charlotte, NC 28217.  Registration will begin at 7:30 AM with the program following from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.  For additional information contact Kay Matthews at 404-347-1635 or via email r8procurementworkshops@fs.fed.us.  You can also visit the website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/aqm/seminars.php for more information about the conference and to access a registration form which can be submitted via email.
