Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) and the Cumberland County School System (CCSS) launched the Fayetteville Cumberland Educational TV Channel (FCETV).  A partnership between Time Warner Cable, Cumberland County, the City of Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and Pope AFB, FCETV will be carried on cable channel 5 throughout Cumberland County and on Fort Bragg and Pope AFB.  Educational content will be provided by FTCC, Cumberland County Schools, the Fort Bragg School System and Fayetteville State University.

“This has been a goal for the college for almost ten years.”  said Dr. Larry Norris, President of FTCC.  “The FCETV channel will bring educational opportunities and resources to every cable subscriber in our community.  Partnering with our sister educational institutions means a wide spectrum of educational services and resources can be made available.”  Dr. Bill Harrison, Superintendent of Cumberland County Schools said “An educational channel for our community has been one of our Board’s goals for several years.  We see many opportunities to deliver educational programs into our schools during the school day and to our students and their families at other times.”

The channel will be managed by FTCC as part of their Learning Technologies Division and will be housed in the Harry F. Shaw Virtual College Center on the FTCC campus.  Planned programming includes K-12 resources, college level courses, English as a Second Language, arts and cultural venues, professional development training for employees in the city, county and educational institutions.  The channel will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Future plans include the opportunity for high school students enrolled in the television curriculum to work in the production and delivery of locally produced programming.
