Over the next five years, $5-7 billion will be spent in North Carolina in the MILCON market. A large quantity of this work will involved masonry construction. To engage masonry contractors in the federal marketplace, the NCMBC and the North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association (NCMCA) recently teamed with one another and kicked off the joint masonry contractor initiative by hosting two masonry subcontracting events.
The first event, held in Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, North Carolina on July 22 and was primarily an information and question and answer session. The second event, held at Wake Tech Community College in Cary on July 23, involved both information and networking sessions. Over 60 businesses attended the events, as well as representatives from NCMBC, NCMCA, Fort Bragg, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
Topics of discussion included use of masonry construction at military installations in North Carolina, methodology and technical requirements, proposed workload, installation access requirements, and quality control and safety procedures.
