Defense Contractor Academy (Cary and Charlotte)

The Defense Contractor Academy will offer an intermediate-level of instruction and a certificate of completion to existing, small business defense contractors to provide the tools needed to grow the federal portion of their business portfolio. 

“The Defense Contractor Academy  provides the advanced skills businesses need in federal business development,  competitive processes and federal contracting procedures to grow in the federal  marketplace – and to grow jobs in North Carolina,” – Scott Dorney, Executive Director of the NCMBC.

A series of classes will be offered April 17-19, 2018 in Cary and November 13-15 in Charlotte.  Each Academy day will include presentation of material and either a panel or guest business(es) to discuss their experiences regarding the topic of the session.

Day 1 (April 17, Cary and November 13, Charlotte):

  • Government Contract Opportunities and Contractor Responses
  • Effectively Marketing Your Business to the Government, Military and Prime Contractors (including capabilities statements)
  • Technology Research and Tools
  • Leveraging Non-Competitive and Limited Competition Acquisitions and Sources of Supply
  • Effective Management Systems to Improve Your Business Operations

Day 2 (April 18, Cary and November 14, Charlotte):

  • Cost Estimating and Developing Pricing Proposals
  • Financing Government Contracts
  • Cost Accounting Standards and Audits

Day 3 (April 19, Cary and November 15, Charlotte):

  • Teaming Arrangements, Joint Ventures, Mentor-Protégé Programs and Limitations on Subcontracting

  • Debriefings, Protests and Contract Administration Issues
  • Defense Contractor Academy Graduation

Parking. Corner of 4th Street and Charlottetowne Avenue.  Park in brick parking deck.  Parking is usually free in this parking deck.  

Directions to Building.  Walk next door to building with same color brick.  (If you have to cross a big street, you parked in the wrong parking deck.) The building is on the corner of Elizabeth Avenue and Charlottetowne Avenue.  It is the HALL Building across from the LEVINE building. It has a big GREEN sign that says “Barnes & Noble Bookstore”.

Cost. All three days of instructions, including materials, catering (sodas, water and lunches) are included in the $125 registration fee, per person.
