SESSION SUMMARIES: 2018 SOUTHEAST REGION AEROSPACE SUPPLY AND SERVICE SUMMIT (AUG 15-16)

Department of Defense and Federal Agency: Supply Chain. This panel session will feature Defense Logistics Agency Aviation (DLA Aviation) and other federal government entities with the mission of developing, managing and sustaining the aerospace and aviation supply chain.  The session will focus on current supply chain operations, ongoing challenges and “gaps,” advanced & additive manufacturing, alternative sourcing methods (resourceful sourcing), current and future opportunities for potential vendors and the proper processes to be considered, approved, preferred as solutions providers.

Unmanned Aerial Systems: Policy, Legislation, Manufacturing, Operations, Training and Maintenance. This panel session will focus on military and civilian UAS platforms development, manufacturing, training, operations, maintenance and sustainment challenges and opportunities.  The panel will specifically highlight military requirements, operations and challenges, public policy issues surrounding UAS and the opportunity to develop a comprehensive industry cluster for research, development, production, fielding, operation and maintenance of unmanned aerial systems.

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Prime & Tier 1: Supply Chain. This panel session will feature aerospace and aviation original equipment manufacturers, prime contractors and Tier 1 suppliers.  The session will focus on current supply chain operations, ongoing challenges and “gaps,” advanced & additive manufacturing, alternative sourcing methods (resourceful sourcing), current and future opportunities for potential vendors and the proper processes to be considered/approved/preferred as solutions providers.

Department of Defense and Federal Agency: Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO). This panel session will cover current Department of Defense and federal government maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations, trends, future requirements, contractor engagement, workforce issues and small business utilization.  The session will focus on ongoing challenges and capability gaps, current and future opportunities for potential service providers, and the proper processes for consideration to be approved/preferred service providers.  The panel will also include the perspective of major contractors supporting these DoD and federal government MRO activities including their operations, challenges and use of subcontractors. The panelists may also address any lessons learned, anticipated requirements and potential strategies to increase the utilization and engagement of additional businesses for continuous process improvement in their organizations’ capabilities to meet their current and future requirements.

Business Opportunities within the Department of Defense and Federal Government Requirements Process.  This session will provide information on where and how to introduce technologies, products, services and other capabilities into the formal Defense Acquisition System.  This will include an overview of the three processes that make up and support the Defense Acquisition System (Requirements/JCIDS Process, Management/Acquisition Process and Funding/PPBE Process).  The focus will be on helping businesses understand the formal adherence to the DAS and the opportunities throughout the process for businesses to introduce their capabilities to Defense officials and prime contractors.

Commercial Marketplace: Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO). This panel session will address current commercial and general aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations, trends, and future requirements.  The session will focus on ongoing challenges and capability gaps, current and future opportunities for potential service providers, and the proper processes for consideration to be approved/preferred service providers.  The panelists may also address any lessons learned, anticipated requirements and potential strategies to engage and use additional businesses for continuous process improvement in their organizations’ capabilities to meet their current and future requirements.

Southeast Aerospace and Aviation Growth and Improvement Forum. This session will be an open discussion forum for all summit participants to provide their input on next and future steps to grow and improve the Aerospace industry.  It should also include recommendations and action items to maximize the results of the 2018 and future Southeast Region Aerospace Supply and Service Summits.
