The Offices of United States Senator Richard Burr and United States Senator Thom Tillis, the North Carolina Military Business Center and the North Carolina Department of Transportation are pleased to announce the Southeastern Opportunities in Aerospace Regional Summit (SOARS) on December 7-9, 2021 virtually.  Due to the COVID pandemic and to increase accessibility to businesses across the state, the 2021 SOARS will be held in a virtual platform.

US Air Force Commander, Defense Supply Center Richmond and DLA Aviation.

Brigadier General David J. Sanford is the Commander of Defense Supply Center Richmond and Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, Richmond, Virginia. DLA Aviation is a major subordinate command of DLA and is the agency’s combat logistics and supply chain manager for aviation and nuclear assets across the Department of Defense. DLA Aviation is headquartered in Richmond and operates at 18 geographically separated sites across the U.S.

General Sanford’s team is comprised of more than 3,800 civilian and military personnel supporting more than 13,500 joint aircraft, 450 intercontinental ballistic missiles and a host of other weapons systems.  His command is the U.S. military’s integrated material manager for over 1.7 million weapon system items, managing an $8.5 billion supply chain enabling all aspects of the Services operational and depot-level repair actions.  Additionally, he serves as base commander for Defense Supply Center Richmond, providing installation support, services, and security to 20 tenants, which includes a 2-star Virginia National Guard Joint Headquarters, and over 8,000 personnel.

ABOUT. The 2021 Southeastern Opportunities in Aerospace Regional Summit (SOARS) is a business development and teaming virtual event focused on highlighting aerospace challenges and demands, presenting opportunities and showcasing regional capabilities to provide solutions to the challenges and demands. The SOARS goal is to facilitate the connections that will optimize the success of aerospace programs, businesses and organizations. The intent is to develop and grow strong relationships among military, industry, government, commercial, public-private partnerships and other aerospace-related organizations to fuel vibrant aerospace industry growth in the southeast region.

SOARS will be conducted virtually with a keynote and two sessions each day. Each day will have a focus: Day 1 is Economic and Workforce Development; Day 2 is Business Development and; Day 3 is Technology. SOARS will be an excellent forum to showcase companies within the southeast region engaged in manufacturing, logistics, research and development and other aerospace-related activities and will connect suppliers and service providers with national aerospace primes, first-tier subs and both military and civilian aerospace customers.
