NC Military Business Center Appoints Heather Port to Business Development Team,
Supporting the Greater Fayetteville Region

August 18, 2021 – The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Port as Business Development Professional at Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, NC.  Serving businesses statewide, Ms. Port will identify contract opportunities, source them to businesses across the state and provide one-on-one assistance to help businesses in the region compete for, win and grow jobs through federal contracts.

“The business development team is the heart of the NCMBC,” said Scott Dorney, NCMBC Executive Director. “Heather’s private sector experience in property management and business development for infrastructure projects, and her experience in military housing management at Fort Wainwright, Alaska will equip her to provide invaluable assistance to North Carolina businesses in winning and successfully executing federal contracts.”
As a member of the NCMBC’s business development team, Ms. Port will identify future and current federal prime and subcontracting opportunities, identify and notify companies of these opportunities statewide and provide one-on-one assistance to help companies bid on and win contracts. Specifically, Ms. Port will monitor contract opportunities from, and impacting entities at Fort Bragg, including: Womack Army Medical Center; Army Sustainment Command (406 AFSB); Department of Defense Education Activity; US Special Operations Command; US Army Special Operations Command; Joint Special Operations Command; Morale, Welfare & Recreation and Non-Appropriated Funds; Exchange and Commissary.
Ms. Port is also responsible for working one-on-one with North Carolina businesses in Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland counties.  In this capacity, Ms. Port will help existing businesses to identify, bid on and compete for federal contracts.
Ms. Port brings over 15 years of marketing and business development experience to the position. Her previous roles include a Director of Marketing and Business Development and as a Regional Marketing Director for various property management firms. After relocating with her family to Fairbanks, Alaska, Heather gained further experience working for an architecture and planning firm as a Marketing Specialist, where she was engaged in proposal development for government and private sector design-build projects. She also worked as a contractor for the Transition Assistance Program on base before moving into federal service as a Housing Manager at Fort Wainwright DPW, where she earned a Customer Service Award from the Garrison.
