INSA Spring Symposium to Focus on OSINT

This year, INSA’s Spring Symposium, OSINT: Thinking Outside the SCIF, is taking place on April 7-8 from 2:00-4:00 pm ET. Both days will feature a keynote and panel discussion focused on OSINT policy issue and mission imperatives and how the IC can use OSINT most effectively. The Hon. Ellen McCarthy, former Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research, and The Hon. Sue Gordon, former PPDNI, will each moderate one of the panel discussions.

About the Moderators

The Hon. Sue Gordon’s extraordinary three decades of public service culminated with her tenure as PDDNI from 2017-2019. Prior, she served for two years as the Deputy Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and for 27 years at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where she held senior executive positions in each of the Agency’s four directorates. In 1998, Ms. Gordon designed and spearheaded the formation of In-Q-Tel, a private, non-profit company that accelerates the development and delivery of cutting-edge technologies to national security agencies. Ms. Gordon is currently pursuing her continued interest in strategy, technology, security, and leadership, offering her expertise to a number of organizations, including Microsoft Corporation.

The Hon. Ellen McCarthy served as the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Intelligence and Research from 2019-2021. Prior to that role, she spent three years in the private sector as president of Noblis NSP. Previously, Ms. McCarthy served as the Chief Operating Officer for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency; the Director of Human Capital Management and Acting Director of Security in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence; the Director of Intelligence Operations, Strategy, and Policy for the U.S. Coast Guard. A former President of INSA (2008-2012), she is an active supporter of the organization and the community it serves.
