Intent of these meetings: SB Roundtables are intended to for USSOCOM to assess the state of its SB program and to allow small businesses to discuss barriers to doing business with USSOCOM\, provide input as to what USSOCOM is Small Business Event – Small Business Roundtable Aug 01\,doing well\, and provide suggestions for ways to make doing business with USSOCOM easier. These roundtables are not meant to be an opportunity for firms to present their capabilities to USSOCOM\, or to receive a forecast of upcoming requirements USSOCOM would like to have participation from all socio-economic categories and a variety of industries. Nora leads all the core quality tools which include the training and facilitation of problem-solving methodologies\, product and process failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA)\, and product development processes (APQP). She also trains\, coaches and mentors organizations in project management. Even though she specializes in quality systems\, she provides support in Lean\, Six Sigma and the Baldrige/NCAfE programs. Nora’s bilingual ability supports other disciplines within IES when clients require coaching or training for their Hispanic workforce. Nora’s manufacturing and quality experience started in Mexico City\, first with the beverage industry and then the automotive industry. Nora has more than 20 years of experience facilitating\, implementing\, auditing and maintaining quality management systems and quality tools such as ISO 9000\, QS 9000\, APQP\, PPAP and FMEA. For five of those years\, she served the automotive industry across North America in project management\, process optimization\, industrial engineering\, problem-solving\, training and facilitation programs. Nora joined IES in 2006\, helping more than 20 companies implement their management systems. She performed over 70 audits and trained over 400 internal auditors in the various standards ISO 9001:2000\, ISO 9001:2008\, ISO/TS 16949:2002\, ISO/TS 16949:2009\, AS9100 B and AS9100C. Before coming back to IES\, Nora served as director of quality for a manufacturing company serving the aerospace\, bio-med and alternative energy industries; as part of the leadership team\, she managed the quality and logistics groups and ensured that the company was able to meet AS9100\, customer and regulatory requirements. Since Nora came back to IES in 2018\, she has continued to coach\, audit and train numerous companies of a diversity of industries on Quality Management Systems principles\, techniques and supporting tools on site and within the virtual environment. DESCRIPTION:The PACT Act\, signed into law in August 2022\, expands health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits\, Agent Orange and other toxic substances. It provides generations of veterans – and their survivors – with the care and benefits they’ve earned. As a result\, North Carolina’s expansive military and veteran communities are significantly affected by the PACT Act. \nThe act is expected to bring an additional 3.5 million veterans into the US Department of Veterans Affairs care\, which will require an emphasis on modernization\, development and expansion of information technology systems. Since leaving military service\, he has focused on the defense industrial base. Currently\, he is a principal and senior advisor with JMH Group – a DC-based consulting company. Besides consulting\, he has been the Senior Mentor for planning and executing brigade theater-level military Command Post Exercises. He is also the Chairman of the Patriot Foundation – a non-profit that disperses millions of dollars in scholarships for the education of severely wounded members of the armed forces and their dependents. Before retiring\, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff\, G-3/5/7 United States Army Reserve Command and Chief\, Readiness\, Office of the Chief of Army Reserve. In this capacity\, he was responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and deployment of the 210k-member US Army Reserve and its multibillion-dollar operating budget. \nBesides his professional military education\, he holds a MA in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. In addition to the Patriot Foundation\, he is a founding member/Treasurer of the Special Warfare Museum Foundation. Every year the federal government aims to utilize small businesses for at least 23% of its overall spending. \nCome join the North Carolina District Office on the second Tuesday of every month to learn about the SBA’s contracting certification programs and gain a competitive edge to sell to the federal government. We will discuss the benefits of the 8(a)\, Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB)\, HUBZone\, and Veteran Small Business (VetCert) certifications. A new half-day pre-symposium on June 13\, 12:30-4:30 pm in the afternoon at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center will focus on the truths and myths of Department of Defense (DoD) funding. Sessions will include introductions from NC Partners who strengthen the defense sector\, company success stories working with the DoD/military/other government agencies\, and an introduction to DoD funding. \n\nMedical Support to the Warfighter\, will connect businesses in North Carolina with military and other federal agencies that require or purchase medical supplies\, equipment\, devices\, pharmaceuticals\, medical information technology and medical services.  Representatives from the Departments of Defense\, Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services\, their prime vendors and major contractors – from national commands and from bases\, commands and facilities in North Carolina – will highlight current technology or resource gaps and needs\, future requirements and procurement processes to supply military and federal medical facilities and agencies.  All medical-related businesses in North Carolina – large or small\, prime contractors\, subcontractors\, suppliers\, manufacturers and service providers – will benefit from briefings on military requirements\, procurement processes and supplier qualifications\, from informal networking with buyers and users\, and from exhibiting or viewing demonstrations of the latest medical technologies designed to support America’s warfighters. \nThe Biomedical and Biodefense Support to the Warfighter track will feature sessions on biodefense preparedness; research & development funding and collaboration to create novel military medical solutions; and human performance.
