Sessions will include introductions from NC Partners who strengthen the defense sector\, company success stories working with the DoD/military/other government agencies\, and an introduction to DoD funding. \n\nMedical Support to the Warfighter\, will connect businesses in North Carolina with military and other federal agencies that require or purchase medical supplies\, equipment\, devices\, pharmaceuticals\, medical information technology and medical services.  Representatives from the Departments of Defense\, Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services\, their prime vendors and major contractors – from national commands and from bases\, commands and facilities in North Carolina – will highlight current technology or resource gaps and needs\, future requirements and procurement processes to supply military and federal medical facilities and agencies.  All medical-related businesses in North Carolina – large or small\, prime contractors\, subcontractors\, suppliers\, manufacturers and service providers – will benefit from briefings on military requirements\, procurement processes and supplier qualifications\, from informal networking with buyers and users\, and from exhibiting or viewing demonstrations of the latest medical technologies designed to support America’s warfighters. \nThe Biomedical and Biodefense Support to the Warfighter track will feature sessions on biodefense preparedness; research & development funding and collaboration to create novel military medical solutions; and human performance.

DESCRIPTION:SAME-USMC Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune\, NC \nJune 18-24\, 2023 \nApplication Deadline: March 15\, 2023 \nThe SAME – US Marine Corps camp is geared toward students interested in pursuing engineering related studies in college or a service academy and is built on the steps professionals encounter when working with a client to deliver sound installation and facilities related products. \nCampers live\, eat and complete activities as a squad of 10\, under the guidance of a uniformed service member and two STEM related working professionals. Berthing is provided in Marine Corps barracks\, meals are taken at galleys or in the field\, and instruction is conducted at various sites aboard MCB Camp Lejeune. \nBASIC APPLICATION CRITERIA: • At least 15 years of age: Rising Sophomore\, Junior\, or Senior • Would like a minimum 3.2 GPA • U.S. Citizen • On track to attend college for a STEM degree • Physically fit and able to provide proof of medical insurance. Demonstrated leadership characteristics through participation in extra-curricular activities\, sports\, and/or community activities. • Please see the requirements for each individual camp. \nCOST: Registration fee for the camp is $800 (Army Camp is $100) . This total cost includes lodging\, meals\, materials\, instruction\, and mentoring. Reena brings extensive experience helping companies do business with the federal government within the United States and overseas. \nReena holds a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Maryland College Park and is an Alumni of the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Program – National Cohort 7. \nPanelist: Tyler Booker\, Director of Advisory Services\, Tego\nTyler has over five years of experience in IT risk management and assessment. Tyler has worked with Greg Manson to help build out the security service offerings of both a Raleigh-based and national MSP prior to moving to Tego. Given the experience working for a national MSP\, Tyler gained expertise in a multitude of different industries ranging from healthcare and biopharmaceuticals to manufacturing and banking. This gives him a wealth of knowledge in dealing with regulations and frameworks such as HIPAA and fast-growing CMMC for organizations in the Defense Industrial Base. Tyler is both a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE). He recently became a CMMC-AB Registered Practitioner allowing Tego to become a CMMC-AB Registered Provider Organization positioning us to assist our many customers in the Defense Industrial Base navigate the strict requirements of the Defense Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS). \nPanelist – Ferd Irizarry\, Principal/Senior Advisor\, JMH Consulting\nBrigadier General Ferdinand “Ferd” Irizarry served in the United States military for 36 years and retired in August 2015. Since leaving military service\, he has focused on the defense industrial base. Currently\, he is a principal and senior advisor with JMH Group – a DC-based consulting company. Besides consulting\, he has been the Senior Mentor for planning and executing brigade theater-level military Command Post Exercises. He is also the Chairman of the Patriot Foundation – a non-profit that disperses millions of dollars in scholarships for the education of severely wounded members of the armed forces and their dependents. Before retiring\, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff\, G-3/5/7 United States Army Reserve Command and Chief\, Readiness\, Office of the Chief of Army Reserve. In this capacity\, he was responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and deployment of the 210k-member US Army Reserve and its multibillion-dollar operating budget. \nBesides his professional military education\, he holds a MA in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. In addition to the Patriot Foundation\, he is a founding member/Treasurer of the Special Warfare Museum Foundation. He is a member of the Small Business Association Veteran Owned Business policy sub-committee\, Defense Alliance of North Carolina\, North Carolina Veterans Business Association\, Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Board\, and the Military Affairs Council. \nPanelist – Laura Rodgers\, Director\, NC Partnership for Cybersecurity Excellence\nLaura works with the member education institutions and industry to develop programs to support cybersecurity in North Carolina. She is also the Director of Cybersecurity Practice in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University\, acting as the technical liaison between industry\, government agencies\, the Secure Computing Institute\, and NC-PaCE. \nPrior to joining NC State\, Rodgers was the Sr. Cyber Compliance Manager for the North Carolina Military Business Center\, where she helped defense contractors develop cybersecurity compliance programs. \nShe has held a variety of positions in the defense industry\, including with Lockheed Martin’s MX and Titan Missile Programs and General Dynamics Information Technology’s urban training programs. \nMs. Rodgers holds a B.S in Accounting and an MBA from Oklahoma State University. SUMMARY:Expanding Care for Our Veterans: VA Health Care and Benefits for Veterans Exposed to Toxic Substances
DESCRIPTION:The PACT Act\, signed into law in August 2022\, expands health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits\, Agent Orange and other toxic substances. It provides generations of veterans – and their survivors – with the care and benefits they’ve earned. As a result\, North Carolina’s expansive military and veteran communities are significantly affected by the PACT Act. \nThe act is expected to bring an additional 3.5 million veterans into the US Department of Veterans Affairs care\, which will require an emphasis on modernization\, development and expansion of information technology systems. It will also require expanding claims processing for newly eligible veterans. \nREGISTER HERE \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis live event will explore implementation efforts of the PACT Act and regional impacts of the legislation.
