Biography. Jim Hargrove has served in a variety of positions, first as a Naval officer, and subsequently with large and small defense contractors, private industry, and as an independent consultant. Jim supports the North Carolina Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH) as an Industry Professional focusing on SBIR/STTR, BAA, and CSO topic areas.
A second-generation Naval Officer, Jim received his commission as a Cryptologic Officer following graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, CA. Significant assignments included PCS and TDY afloat, overseas, and staff officer responsibilities on both the Commander U.S. THIRD Fleet and Commander-in-Chief U.S. Pacific Fleet staffs. Prior to retirement Jim served in the Pentagon as the Electronic Warfare requirements officer within the Navy’s Surface Warfare Directorate. His final tour of duty was as the Chief of Operations for the National Security Agency’s Information Warfare Support Center. A qualified Surface Warfare Officer, Jim also received subspeciality designations in Electronic Warfare and Space Systems Operations.
Jim’s industry experience includes Systems Engineering, Project Management, and SETA roles within the U.S. Intelligence Community, U.S. Cyber Command, and the U.S. Navy. After relocating to North Carolina from the DC Metro area, he worked in MetLife Global Technology’s Cybersecurity organization as an application security consultant.
Jim received a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, CA.
