Article: The Longest 60 Seconds: Safety and Survival at Sea

FORT EUSTIS, Va. — Civil Service Mariners (CIVMAR) demonstrate a  ‘sunburst’ formation during an abandon ship scenario at the Military Sealift  Command Training Center East on Joint Base Langley-Fort Eustis, Virginia.  The ‘sunburst’ formation is a technique used to make those stranded at-sea more visible from the air. The training evolution was part of the Safety and Survival portion of the Military Sealift Command Basic Training curriculum, which must be completed by all MSC CIVMARs before joining the fleet.  The article entitled, “THE LONGEST 60 SECONDS: SAFETY AND SURVIVAL AT SEA”, in the Navy’s Military Sealift Command News by Bill Mesta dated July 27, 2022.
